Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance

Tai Ji Quan helps older adults improve their balance and reduce the likelihood of falling. Participants learn balance skills, good body alignment, and coordinated Tai Ji movements. Tai Ji Quan is good for all ability levels, as it can be done standing or seated.

Audience: Adults of all ability levels.

Class Requirements
Modes of Delivery
  • In-person
  • Online via Zoom
Duration
  • 1-hour sessions
  • 24 sessions, 2 classes per week for 12 weeks OR
  • 24 sessions, 3 classes per week for 8 weeks
Leaders
  • 1 leader
  • Requires 2-day training
  • Leader must teach 1 class per year to maintain program certification
Materials
  • Participants who prefer to practice seated: a sturdy chair with no wheels or arms
Participants
  • Recommended 8-15 participants per class
  • Juniper’s average number of participants enrolled in class: 12
  • Juniper’s average completion rate: 53%
  • Completer: 16 out of 24 classes
Special Requirements

For classes hosted via Zoom:

  • Participants need to have audio and visual capability
  • Leader must use HIPAA-complaint platform, Zoom
